You could be forgiven for not recognising the Lapse of this eponymous record of the Lapse from "True Conditions", their debut EP released a few years earlier. Despite containing the same members, on the same instruments: there's a maturity in the songwriting; a different angle on melody; a strange, subdued ephemerality that they've explored using those very same fingers, ears and throats you would have enjoyed only a few years ago. This self-titled record explores further the quieter spaces that existed on "True Conditions", instrumentation far more delicate and minimal than the expansive shoegaze compositions of their first releases. Consider it the refinement of something you already loved: your favourite restaurant is still making that dessert you liked; except every single thing about it has improved. Can you say no?
